3 Reasons why you need a Seamstress the day of your Wedding.

Welcome to the bridal styling secrets podcast.

I’m your host, Brittanie Cline, and I’m going to chat with you today about day of bridal seamstress and why you need one for your wedding day. So first off, the main reason you might need a bridal seamstress for your wedding day is if you have a designer gown that is a royal length or ball gown, this is definitely a huge reason to bring on a bridal seamstress for your wedding day.

Number one, because of the obvious reason steaming. It’s going to take a lot of work to steam out that gown and shuffle it from point A to point B. The second reason why you’re going to want a bridal seamstress for a ball gown is due to ⁓ the stress of the zipper when your dress is being zipped, when you’re being zipped into your dress for one. And then also just for the sake of having someone there that can help you with that zipper. Should you need it replaced or should you need help getting into the dress?

Third reason why you would want to bring on a bridal seamstress for the day of your wedding would be if you are having an outdoor ceremony and then an indoor reception. During an outdoor ceremony, you’re more than likely to get a grass stain or dirt stain, dirt debris on the outside of your dress. I’ve heard of things happening with someone stepping on the outside of the dress and it got a grass stain on the dress. This would be great to have a bridal seamstress on hand to get those stains out. Someone that is educated in spot staining so that you can get those stains out the day of your wedding from going from point A to point B.

Another common problem that I’ve heard of happening at weddings, and this is, you know, not so common that you need to fret about it, but it does happen. I’ve heard of people having their veil get stepped on and it tearing or it catching somewhere and tearing. This is also something that would be great to have a bridal seamstress on hand so that we can stitch up, finally stitch up your veil so it doesn’t appear to have a hole or anything and you can make your way through bridal portraits and photos and it’ll appear as if nothing had ever happened.

So for the bonus portion of this podcast, I’m going to chat with DIY brides. How can you bring on this sort of thing or be prepared for this if a bridal concierge or day of bridal seamstress is not within the scope of your budget. Ashlyn & Dominic | Sawtooth Botanical Gardens | Ketchum, Idaho

Ashlyn and Dominic’s wedding at Sawtooth Botanical Gardens in Ketchum, Idaho, was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the heart of the Wood River Valley, the gardens provided a breathtaking backdrop for their special day. With vibrant wildflowers, lush greenery, and the tranquil sound of running water from the garden’s meandering stream, it was a dreamlike setting. Guests were surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Sawtooth Mountains.

Following the heartfelt ceremony, guests gathered in the beautifully landscaped garden space for a lively reception. The open setting allowed everyone to take in the views while celebrating under twinkling string lights. Ashlyn and Dominic’s wedding at Sawtooth Botanical Gardens was a perfect fusion of nature & elegance.

We assisted Ashlyn in finding the perfect fit for her wedding dress alterations. She had a beaded fit and flare wedding dress that needed taken in with lace applique hem, strap adjustment, and bustle. We also helped her tie in her bridal look with a simple short elbow length cascade veil. For Dominic we paired together his groom look with a special order black bow tie and wing tipped white shirt to compliment his white tuxedo with black lapel. This was a project we will treasure! We are thankful to be a part of such a special day for Ashlyn and Dominic. Congrats you two!

Hannah & Opie | McCall, Idaho | Wedding Dress Alterations

Hannah came to us in need of wedding dress alterations for her gown from Kate’s Bridal Cottage in Meridian, Idaho. With some added construction, an all over fit, hem and bustle, we found the perfect fit! Hannah had a custom cascade waltz length veil made to compliment her bridal look.

Their Story:

As the summer season at McCall Aviation was kicking off, the FBO was gathering seasonal employees for the busy summer and fall ahead. Hannah was the Manager of FBO Services and Opie applied for a line position. At the end of the season, Hannah moved to Denver to pursue career opportunities out of Idaho. Opie moved to Victor and then on to Big Sky.

6 years later Opie and Hannah reconnected in person at McCall Aviation. Hannah was visiting McCall for the 4th of July holiday and ran into Opie working the line at McCall Aviation. In those 6 years, Opie had worked to get his private pilot license, buy a Cessna 182 and build hours to fly in the Idaho backcountry. Following the reunion, Hannah asked Opie to take her flying. Unfortunately, the airplane was down for annual maintenance with a few things to repair. Throughout the year Hannah continued to check in with Opie for a flight but he had returned home to Michigan to help his dad with some stuff.

Summer of 2020 rolled around and Hannah once again ran into Opie at McCall Aviation. This time however, the airplane was up and running and Opie jumped at the opportunity to take Hannah for a breakfast flight! They flew into Big Creek pictured here. After breakfast they flew to Indian Creek and walked up to the Pistol Creek airstrip and back. After dropping Hannah back at the airport, Opie asked if he could take Hannah for another flight the following day. She enthusiastically said yes! On to Stanley they went. The reconnection brought Hannah and Opie back together and their love for adventure in the airplane or the van continues to build their experiences together for what will be the rest of their lifetime.

Bride Monet brought her stunning Enzoani wedding dress to us in need of alterations for her wedding day. With a few adjustments to the bodice, straps, and multilayered hemline, we found the right fit.

I love seeing how everything came together for their big day! Wallowa Lake certainly has my heart since my home town isn’t too far from there.

Monet and Trinity’s wedding at Wallowa Lake was a celebration that beautifully intertwined with the backdrop of the majestic Wallowa Mountains.

The Venue: Wallowa Lake Lodge

The couple chose the historic Wallowa Lake Lodge as their venue, a decision that added a layer of timeless charm to their celebration. Established in 1923, the lodge has been a landmark in Wallowa County, offering a blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort. Its towering pines, crystal-clear waters, and tranquil atmosphere provided an unforgettable setting for Monet and Trinity’s wedding.

Alisha & Kainoa | Wedding Dress Restyle

Lace Wedding Dress with Sleeves and Open Back

When Alisha brought her gown to our little cottage, I was thrilled to help her make her dress as unique as her. She had vision to remove some additional details from the back of her gown to make it an open back lace dress. In addition, she requested to remove the bottom half of the underskirt lining to create an illusion skirt. Along with those aesthetic adjustments and other alterations here and there, we checked off her alterations early.

” Kainoa and I first met at the gym. We were friends and our first ‘date’ was at Stockshow in 2014. He asked me if I could swing dance. I let him twirl me around the dance floor and showed him a thing or two. We danced all night and that is pretty much the spark that created many more dates after that.

He proposed October 2018 at the pumpkin patch in Imbler. We took our son out there and little did I know, him and our Summit had it all planned. I turned around and he was down on one knee with a beautiful shiny ring. I was so excited/emotional that after about 5 minutes Kainoa was all “uh…are you going to say yes or….?” Haha.”

Kianoa had a vision for his look too. Grey suits paired with burgundy accents. I have to say, I think the best dressed of all was Summit, but I might be partial because he’s so stinking cute. I really enjoyed assisting the gentlemen with fittings and helping them fine tune all of the tuxedo rental details.

“I think the funniest part of our wedding was (and still is) the fact that the weather was by far the worst part of the day. It was the WORST day in October and even now, going into November, it’s the worst weather we’ve had yet haha. It was like 90mph winds, down poured all day and it never let up! I had to hide in the luxury bathroom (porta potty) right outside the barn doors before my big entrance! Haha
My friend had to knock on the door and tell me: “you’re up!” As a stand in the pouring rain and wind as they open the barn doors to walk down the aisle. Let’s just say, I think my grand entrance made a statement!“

Oregon Wedding Venue with Camping

When Jamie first popped by our little cottage with her gorgeous floral layered lace gown, I was in awe of how unique it was! Jamie & Dallas chose to get married at the beautiful Emigrant Springs State park nestled near the summit of the Blue Mountains. Emigrant Springs rests in the heart of an old growth forest. They have several amenities which I will talk more about later in this article, but first here’s a bit about their story.

” Dallas and I met in high school, and actually were each other’s first boyfriend/girlfriend and first kiss. As most teen love stories tend to go, I ‘broke his heart’ at the tender age of 16. Him, being the stubborn man that he is, did not talk to me for the next 8 years (all while living in the same town, and two of those years, attending the same small high school– not the easiest feat). We finally reconnected in 2017 and began dating again. About 6 months into our relationship, he proposed outside of my mom and stepdad’s house (where we had our first kiss back in high school) and had my entire family and all of my friends there to witness the whole thing. It was absolutely perfect, and we celebrated the rest of the night! Fast forward to our wedding day.. It was everything I had imagined it to be. We were surrounded by so many loved ones, and I am constantly wishing we could re-live it! We have the memories to look back on though, and of course, the future ahead of us to look forward to!”

There’s some kind of magic in love stories where you reconnect. Jamie & Dallas had a beautiful wedding hosted by Emigrant springs. In case you don’t know of the state park here are some of the amenities they provide:

Hey all! It’s Britt with Modern Cottage bridal, and I am so excited today to share with you our bride Stormey’s story about her wedding. She came to us last summer with an idea to incorporate her mom’s wedding dress. Pieces of her mom’s wedding dress were used with hers and after some brainstorming. We decided to take the lace applique and attach it to a detachable train that I created for the special project. You can see featured below pictures of her on her wedding day. We also got the chance to hear her tell a little bit about her wedding story and her experience with Modern Cottage Bridal. So here it is!

“My husband and I met after his high school dance when we were 15 and 16. He was my first love, it’s pretty crazy to think of how far we have come. When Cody and I got engaged I was so excited to marry him and plan a beautiful day to celebrate our love with our friends and family. I told my mom, and just had to try on her wedding dress like I had done when I was a little girl! My mom was married in 91′ so as you can imagine the style was pretty different than it is now. Poofy sleeves, lots of jewels and sparkles and gigantic train. But I still wished I could have something of hers with me on my wedding day. With my mom and sisters brainstorming we decided to use lace from her train and add it to a veil to go with my dress.

I went to Brittanie for my alteration and told her about my veil ideas. She Suggested that I consider doing a custom detachable train with the lace instead. I instantly loved the idea! I had always wanted a train but my dress did not have one at all. She created the perfect train to take my dress to the next level! I absolutely love it. And I got to have a piece of my moms dress with mine. Our wedding was up n the woods, it was very simple and romantic. We only used flowers to decorate. My father Made a wedding arch for us out of beautiful birch trees. My dress fit the environment so well. After the ceremony I was able to unfasten my train so I could easily dance without dealing with it. Brittanie did a wonderful job!”
